Olympics to ‘Rebound from Crisis’
BBC News Thursday, 10 April 2008 11:18 UK
This article is discussing the recent Chinese “activities” in Tibet and how they are affecting the Olympic torch run for the games in Tibet. Many people from many different countries are outraged by the Chinese and some have even gone as far to try and extinguish the torch as it passes through London, Paris, and San Francisco. The head of the Olympic committee has stated that although these violent protests have troubled many, the games will continue never the less. The religious leader of Tibet, the Dalai Lama, stated that china has a right to the games and that the protesters should express themselves peacefully. The Olympic committee told China that they should improve human rights before the game. China said that they hoped the Olympic committee would not bring up “irrelevant political factors”.
a. This Article shows the AP theme of Impact of interaction among and within major societies because of the many countries that are boycotting or considering boycotting (Including ourselves) the Olympic games because Chinas actions in Tibet.
b. This issue has been going on ever since China took control of Tibet. The Tibetans Strongly protested this move by China which, in turn, caused China to increase military presence in Tibet. People around the world are outraged, and now with the approach of the Olympic Games tensions are increasing.
c. The writer of this is most likely of English nationality and is probably stationed in the UK. This also means that the writer is an outsider to the conflict all the way in Tibet but possibly witnessed some of the protests since the Torch came through London.
d. Although the writer does a good job of reaming neutral I feel he appears to be writing in a way that is against Chinas actions. In the article it says that China believes that their presence in Tibet is Irrelevant to the rest of the world and that how much trouble they are causing throughout the world.
e. One point of view that I feel would like to hear from to gain a better understanding of the article is a Protester of this issue and why they are protesting and how they feel about the Chinese actions in Tibet.
f. I feel that the Olympics should not be delayed despite the Chinese presence in Tibet because it is a tradition that is just part what we do. However I do feel the Chinese are abusing their power and need to improve their human rights. As for the protesters, their cause is just but by becoming violent and attacking the torch bearer it makes people see them as the abusers.

I agree with Connor that the Olympics should not be delayed beause of the Chinese. The Olymipics are a tradition and are watched and supported for all over the world. The protestors should be a little less harsh and not take their protest out violently.
