Summary:
The Tibetan Youth Congress, also known as TYC, is an organization that works for complete independence of Tibet. Leaders of the organization recently revealed that they will use terrorism to achieve their goals, because it makes the biggest effect and requires the lowest cost. They would even be willing to sacrifice up to 100 Tibetans if it would give them a victory. They also admitted to having made plans to secretly enter China and start a battle. During a recent riot in Lhasa, police seized over 100 guns and thousands of bullets and explosives from people of the TYC. The Chinese law contains a definition of a terrorist organization, and the TYC fits it perfectly.
Reactions:
-This article relates to the theme ‘Impact of technology, economics, and demography on people and the environment’ because this organization is using technology to help with their terrorist actions.
-The TYC is an organization that was founded in 1970, and is similar to other terrorist groups such as Al-Qaida.
-This article was written by someone from the newspaper staff, which is from China. They are probably an outsider on this issue.
-The author seems to possibly be against the TYC, because throughout the article they bring up many reasons to prove that they are terrorists.
-A point of view missing from this article is a leading member of the Tibetan government, so we could see what they think of the TYC’s actions, and what they are doing to try to stop it.
-I think that this group is doing terrible things. There are so many terrorist groups in the world just like this one, and they all need to be stopped. It’s not necessary to cause so much conflict and fighting over something like racism, or whatever the reasons for their actions may be.

I think that although it is interesting that the Tibetan people have been forced to resort to violence in obtaining their own independence,we can't forget, with this article, that The People's Daily newspaper is owned by the Chinese government itself. I think that the real situation in Tibet is not at all like this article implies, and that the Chinese only want to justify their own actions in suppressing the Tibetans, and they are trying to use their control of the media to make it look like the Tibetans are the wrong ones, when they in fact, are the ones who have provoked conflict in the region for over 50 years, and have caused a peaceful people living under the Dalai Lama to have to resort to violence
