I. Call to Boost Food Output

II. This article is about the rising price of food and the idea of trade to help with price problems. The European Parliament’s trade committee thinks that trade pacts with African, Caribbean and Pacific countries might help increase food production. Food production would be increased by boosting agricultural trade and drawing substantial investments in farming. The World Bank’s top official for Africa said soaring food and energy prices threaten the economies in Africa.

III. A) This article fits the theme, “Creation, expansion, and interaction of economic systems,” because it is about making trade between different countries to supply food.

B) Africa has a very poor economy right now and food and energy prices are very high and keep rising. Also, efforts to meet a December 31 deadline set by the World Trade Organization for reaching regional trade pacts with all ACP countries have failed.

C) This article is most likely written from the point of view of a European reporter.

D) The reporter seems to be in favor of the trade pacts and encourages them. The reporter is an outsider to this issue.

E) To gain a full understanding of this article, it would be helpful to hear from African, Caribbean and Pacific country officials and leaders to see if they agree with the trade pacts being helpful to their economies.

F) I think this is a very good idea to help other countries with their food problems. Maybe this will work and people’s lives will be better in Africa and other poor economy countries.
