Suicide-bomb backer runs Livingstone campaign
KEN LIVINGSTONE
Summary
"Muslims 4 Ken" is a group of people that are trying to get Muslims to vote for Ken Livingstone, for mayor on May 1st. They hope to influence about 200,000 Muslim votes, but on Wednesday a British newspaper confirmed that Ken Livingstone was in fact a supporter of suicide bombing. It is also believed he is running his campaign by saying Boris Johnson, the Conservative Party's candidate for mayor, is anti-Islam. The group, Muslims 4 Ken, is led by Anas Altikriti and Azzam Tamimi (a supporter of suicide bombing in Israel). Anas says he favors dialogue to further the Muslim cause, but he was against the Muslim Council of Britain's decision to end their boycott of Holocaust Memorial Day. The Evening Standard newwspaper also said also that Anas and Livingstone are supporters of Yusuf al-Qaradawi, (a supporter of suicide bombings against civilians). Critics of the mayor say his praise of Qaradawi was part of a skeptical plan to make use of the Muslim vote. Qaradawi was banned from entering the UK this year over fears his presence might not be conducive to "security and peace". Azzam praises suicide bombers, calls for Israel's destruction and even said he would volunteer for a suicide mission. The Evening Standard report says that the group is moving into "overdrive" this week to help Livingstone seek re-election.
Reaction
This article relates to the AP World theme, four, Systems of social structure and gender structure, because the Muslims are coming together to get someone to rise in power that will benefit them. There is not much historical background to this article, because we don't exactly know the results of the election, but do know that supportin of suicide bombing is part of the background of many in this article. This article is written from a british reporter from The Evening Standard. (Insider view) The most bias statement in this article was a quote, by Stephanie Leven, saying "We are delighted with the success of the event and huge turnout of people who came to support of Boris". I would like to hear either an insider's view or a Muslim's view on this subject because a Muslim would be very different and an outsider could see both sides. I know that if I were living in this area, I would be scared if Ken Livingstone became mayor or in power.

This is a very controversial issue and I disagree with the new candidate for mayor. I like that you said if you were living here you would be scared if he was elected. I agree with that. I wonder what this new discovery about the mayor will do to his supporter numbers. I persoanlly disagree with any type of bombing and think that a person who supports suicide bombing should not be allowed to run for mayor at all. If I wasl living there I would definitely be scared that he would be mayor and scared of what he might do when he is elected, if he is elected.
