II. This article is about a young Chinese man who was jailed for three and a half years for speaking against the communist government. As soon as he was charged both the European union and the United States condemned the trial saying "In this olympic year we , we urge China to seize the opportunity to put its best face forward and take steps to improve its record on human rights and religious freedom," said a statement from the US embassy in Beijing. The man originally started to become political on environmental issues then gradually his speeches became more controversial.
