PART I

France has announced that boycotting the Olympics' opening ceremony is an option that may occur. The 2008 Summer Olympics plan to take place this summer in Beijing, China. Yet, many countries, including France, may not participate. Lately, there has been a lot of violence going on in Tibet. In 1959, the independent country of Tibet was taken over by China. This caused many problems with the citizens and their independence. Recently, there has been a lot of violent boycotts in need for their independence. Now, many of the countries participating in the Olympics are worried for their safety if they continue to participate.

PART II

A. This article relates to the AP World theme of " impact of interaction among and within major societies.

B. Since about the 7th century, Tibet has been an independent state. This all changed in 1959 when China took it over and took its independence with it. For years, Tibet has been fighting to regain their independence. Recently, the fights have been getting greater.

C. The author of this article is writing in a Japan newspaper, so i assume he is japanese. This would lead to no bias in the article.

D. I did not find any indication of bias remarks. This article was all facts. There may have been a feeling against the Chinese government for what they are doing to Tibet, but it was not very noticeable.

E. I would like to here from other countries who are participating in the Olympics. This would help me to know what other people are going to do, considering the situation.

F. I believe that what is going on in Tibet is horrible. People who have had their independence for so many years now have to fight for it. I feel really bad for them. I hope they get what they need. I think some other countries need to get in their and help them, because it is obviously not working on their own. Now, about the Olympics. I think that there most be a lot of safety precautions involved for it to continue. I don't think that it should only be the Chinese army. I think other countries' armies should help out too. It is bad enough that so many Tibet people are dying because of these boycotts. You don't want it happening at a huge, international event.

This is a very interesting article and I think that the boycotts that could happen at the Olympics would make quite a statement, and even more of a statement if the quantity of nations increases. There has been a lot of talk regarding the boycotts, and I think that China needs to look upon its history and see that Tibet has had independence for a while, and just because China wants to unite it under its rule, that doesn't mean it can just waltz in and take over Tibet. There are enough people dying all over the world as it is, we don't need innocent people dying because of a nation's greed. I don't think that boycotting the Olympics as a whole would work, but rather follow in Sweden's footsteps and consider just boycotting the ceremonies but still allow the hard work and achievement of these amazing atheletes to be showcased. Don't disappoint the athletes who have probably worked their whole life to get to this point when there is another solution. Rather, find a solution that makes a statement without taking away from the country's national pride.

I really like this article. I find it extremely interesting that France iis considering boycotting the Olypics which is such a world-renowned event. I think this will defenitly make a huge statement to the world about the power of the French. I don't think that this will work in favor of the French though. I think that if this happens the world nations will look down upon them. I would be insulted if my country was hosting the Olypics and another country boycotted it. I think that it is sad that there is talk of this happening because the Olymipcs are supposed to be unifying and unite the world nations together.

I think that this is an extremely interesting article, but I don't think that there will be any sort of boycott of the 2008 Olympics, only because of China's wealth, and influence in the modern global markets, which will keep other nations careful not to upset China. I think that China sees the 2008 Olympics as their statement to the world, proving that they are among the top countries in the world, and they will do anything needed to clear the way for the Olympics. China is not being held responsibly enough for their actions in Tibet, only because nobody really knows what the Chinese are doing to stop the violence in Tibet. I hope that other nations will be able to effectively use their participation in the Olympics as a bargaining tool, to settle for a long lasting peace in Tibet.
