I. China makes progress innovating science & technology

II. This article is about China’s achievements in Science and Technology. They have started many projects and established many scientific research bases. They are making jumbo planes, gas and coal fields, nuclear energy, and water waste disposal. China is also trying to make automobiles that are environment-friendly. Ministries of Science and Technology are coordinating with other ministries in order to have their achievements benefit their society as a whole.

III. A) This article relates to the AP World theme: creation, expansion, and interaction of economic systems. It relates to this theme in that China is making many advancements in Science and Technology. Their society is becoming very industrialized.

B) The historical background of this article is that China has gone through many dynasties. China is a communist country, and they have many laborers. They are now slowly become an industrialized country.

C) This article was written by a Chinese newspaper. They are an insider.

D) They are boasting about how great China is without mentioning what other nations are doing. Many other nations are making advancements in their society as well, but they do not talk about them. China also has very bad pollution. This article discusses all of their achievements in Science and Technology, but they do not mention that their pollution is so bad some people must wear masks. The pollution has gotten so bad that they are even closing down factories five days before the Olympics to try and get rid of some of the pollution.

E) It would be helpful to hear from an environmentalist. They might not think that the advancements China is making are good for their society. An environmentalist may not like what China is doing. They might want them to stop making factories.

F) I think that China should not be making so many factories. China’s pollution is awful. Even though they are making great achievements in Science and Technology, they need to stop before the environment becomes too dangerous to live in.
