Summary
This article is about how the family of a 17-year-old Muslim boy from the UK who was killed at a train station by a few white boys feels about the terrible loss. The boy’s name was Ahmed Hassan and he was very intelligent. He was getting ready to go to college in Manchester. He was with his cousin, Mohammad the night he was stabbed. His family was so devastated that they couldn’t even speak at all. Over 2500 people came to his funeral. Two white men were charged with murder. This reporter thinks that the murder may be racially involved. Police are still investigating whether this is true or not.

Reaction
A)This article relates to the AP world history theme "Development and transformation of social strucures." It relates to this theme because The man that was killed was allegedly because he was of the Islamic community.
B) This article doesn't have much historical background. Terrorist groups have in the past few years been atacking many important sites. Most members of the groups are Muslims. Some people are narrow minded and believe that all Muslims are terrorist.
C)This article was written for the Muslim News, a Muslim newpaper in the UK. The writer, Nihal Valji, is a Muslim male. He can be considered an insider since he himself is Muslim. He probably took offense to this story himself.
D)The point of view of this writer affects how this story is told in some way. Him being a Muslim, he may believe the fact that this man was killed for his religion more than someone of other beliefs. There is no proof, so far, that this was a racist crime.
E)It would be nice to hear from a witness of the killing. He could help with saying if anti-islamic words were said, or if this killer was just crazy.
F)I feel that this is a terribly sad thing to hear about. Why would anybody kill a man, first off? And because of his beliefs? Thats cruel and disgusting. To kill a man is horrible to begin with, but killing him for silly reasons like him being a Muslim is beyond wrong.

I think tara did a great job on this assignment. She followed the directions and I agree with her on the author's point of view. Like Alyssa, I would also like to hear from the murder.

Tara did a good job in this assignment. However, I disagree with the lack of backround history. There is plenty of history in this article. The extremists in the Shi'ite sect of Islam saw Europeans and especially Americans as a corrupting force. So these extremists, on September 11th 2001, planned several hijackings and bombings. Now, influenced by the news, all Americans fear Muslims. The news media corrupted the minds of America in forcing these racist ideas that all Muslims are terrorists looking to kill us. And I believe that it was this racism that caused this murder. Also, like Julia and Alyssa, I would like to hear from the murderers to see if it really was racism that caused this murder.

It is events in the world like this that make me want to scream. I agree with her reaction 100%. It is just so horrible that predjudice could kill you. I think everyone in the world is a little prejudice about somethings but when it gets taken to an extreme like this it is unbelivable. Good article, sad story.

O yea and Lars's reaction does make senese but nothing can justify killing a man.

I agree with her reactions, but unfortunatly I don't think the boys will be charged for very long because of all the racism in the world. Lars is correct with how people create stereotypes for Muslims, but these people were obviosly not educated.
