This article is talking about how this weekend an Arab summit held in Damascus, the capital of Syria for the first time had an Arab country refuse to send a delegation This is something that has been done for many years, but more attention was turned toward the countries who didn’t attend. This country was Lebanon who felt no need to attend this years gathering. Also, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan and Yemen all sent low level people and not their high delegates. These countries are the ones that have been backed up by the U.S.

Reactions

A) The AP world theme that best relates to this article would be, Changes in functions and structures of states and in attitudes toward states and politicalidentities, including the emergence of the nation-states. This would best describe what this article is talking about because, these countries that decided this year to protest and refuse to show up to the Arab summit is showing that they no longer support of feel that it is important.
B) The history to this problem involves many conflicts of the Middle East and what country supports each other and other factors like that. For the past 8 years that this Arab summit has been taken place, there never seemed to be a problem until now.
C) The view that is portrayed in this article seems to be from people who don’t think that Lebanon and all the other countries that didn’t show up was right and it was something to be ashamed of. The writers seem to be insiders to the situation.
D) This article seems to be leaning in favor of the Arab countries hosting the summit. This could affect the views by readers and other people because they could exaggerate the situation in their favor to make it seem worst from their point of view.
E) A point of view that should be present in the article is delegates from all of the countries that didn’t show up to the Arab summit and reasons why this was the first year they felt that they didn’t have to attend.
F) I think that this article was very interesting but at the same time very controversial and we seem to only have a couple views from the conflict. I would have wanted to hear from the other countries and heard reasons why they didn’t attend. I also wanted to see why and if they had a reason not to show up based on past events.

I completely agree with Rachel. I think that it would be very interesting to have input from the countries that did attend the meeting because i would like to see why they did not go and if they felt the meeting was not important. I also agree that this article is controversal.
