Ghana: "Gender Equality Essential for Growth And Poverty Reduction"-Sebregondi
http://allafrica.com/stories/200803130488.html March 13th 2008
Summary:
This article is about the quest to reduce the use of poverty and give both genders equal rights. The government will provide resources for the two sexes and have the gain both genders equal rights. The government needs a realistic budget in order to gain support from both men and women.
Reactions:
a) This AP World history theme is development and transformation of social structures, gender roles and realations. This is because there is social inequality within the city of Ghana and males and females should have equal rights. The poorer people should also have equal rights because wealth shouldn't determine social status in a society.
b) The men and women of Ghana both had different roles in society and the roles determined the importance of their social class.
c + d) The point of view in this article is written by a Ghanarian male who is a supporter of this new idea of gender equality. It was written by an insider in Africa. This could of been biased because in this case, males could be superior to females.
e) I would like to hear from a woman's point of view to see what she thinks of the new idea of equal sexes.
f) I thought the article was very interesting. The only thing i was confused about was which rights the males and women would be gaining as a whole. Other wise, the article taught me a lot.
