A. Summary:
This article is about how people all over the entire world are not taking global warming seriously. It explains how a survey was taken, and half of the people who took the survey believe that the “climate changes” are still not proven or harmful. They also imply that civilians around the world really don’t take into consideration how much this could really affect us; and think that other minor events in the world are more crucial in their living environment. The writer clearly shows how all people are selfish for what they need now, and don’t think about the future. It even says that Royal Society vice-president Sir David said that there is no need to worry about these drastic climate changes; that there is no real seriousness to be worried about.
B. Reactions:
1. This article relates to the AP world theme of Interactions between humans and the environment because all people around the world aren’t treating the earth as it should be. Everyone takes advantage of what the earth offers, but never realizes that the world is getting destroyed day by day, and something must be done; and fast.
2. The historical context behind this topic is that the theory of “global warming” has existed for a long time, however, no major changes have been done to stop it. Scientist, over the years, have constantly said the earth is getting harmed, people will be effected by the constant temperature rise, sometime. No one seems to listen, and people will be in shock when it comes at full strength.
3. Although the author is not given; this is obviously written by an insider- because global warming effects the entire world. Nationality and gender of this person(s) does not play a major factor in his or her opinion because this threat effects all nations and all people.
4. The point view of this writer is defiantly indicated throughout this article. It is defiantly written with the opinion of an environmentalist or a scientist. He/she constantly says how no one listens to scientists and what they have to say. They also points out that all of the civilians who say global warming doesn’t effect the lives of people; are in for a big shock.
5. The point of view that is missing from this article is from an actual person who is studying global warming. It would be extremely helpful to hear from a scientist because we can get many examples and/or reasons as to what global warming is specifically doing to us, also maybe to get more people the realize the massive damage.
6. I think global warming is a very serious topic that needs to be addressed in a much more mannerly fashion, and much faster. I don’t think that many people understand the fact that eventually, global warming can take away homes, food and possibly take away lives. I think it is ridiculous how Sir David doesn’t even know the devastation that global warming can cause, especially considering he should be highly educated on the topic, if he is of royalty.
