Summary-This article is about the struggles and protests of exiles from Tibet who were exiled because they wanted religious freedom. The Nepal police has developed a “zero tolerance” towards these riots mainly because they are not friendly with the Chinese. The riots have not stopped and the punishments have not gotten more lax. The Nepal police have been said to have arrested more than 80 rioters and have hurt 2 especially bad.
Reaction-
1.) This article relates to the AP world theme- the impact of interaction among and within major societies. This article best relates to this theme because it deals with the struggles this society is having with riots inside their “major society”.
2.) This conflict started out as a struggle for religious persecution by the Tibetans and the Nepalese. Right now the two societies wants religious freedom from China. China, being a communist country, has no religion and there lies the problem for these two societies who are based around religion.
3.) The author of this article is most probably an outsider because he/she miswrites a few problems that occur. They also convey things in a manner that conveys Nepal to be bad when actually is not.
4.) This author’s opinion/point of view is shading their ability to report this event accurately because they either don’t know enough about the past or they are extremely against Nepal. Either way is not good because that does not give the right information. This author makes it his/her goal to make out Nepal to be bad. They include all the bad that Nepal is doing and not explaining the previous events that would justify Nepal’s actions. It also makes the Tibetans out to be the victim but they were exiled from their own society first, which is failed to mention.
5.) The point of view that is missing from this article is a Tibetan protestor. This point of view would be helpful because to know why the Tibetans were willingly risking their lives in the riots would help to make sense of the situation.
6.) I do not much like this article because after I read it and then researched it I realized how wrongly the author interprets the events going on. It conveys all the wrong situations, gives no background information and does not develop why any of this is happening. The article also shows a clear bad guy and victim but that is never the case in a long-term history struggle.
