II. Summary
The Amnesty International reported that Ethiopian troops in Somalia are currently killing innocent civilians and harming them in cruel and violent ways. The Ethiopian troops were asked to help the country of Somalia to stop insurgents of Muslims into their nation. Along with the mass killings, neighborhoods are destroyed and stolen from. Even escaping from the torture can be dangerous due to the roads that are full of Ethiopians. The refugee sights are low on food, water, and first aid because of failed missions stopped by groups.
III. Reactions
A) This article relates to the AP World History theme of impact of interaction among and within major societies. There was a problem with Somalia’s interaction within another society, the Islamic world. There friendly interaction with Ethiopia led to an alliance that allowed Somalia to have extra protection with the Ethiopian troops. Now the interaction is within a major society, the killings in Somalia. Interaction between the world and a major society is seen as many are turning to see who is at fault for tragedy occurring.
B) Amnesty International is an organization that works to protect human rights throughout the world. They try to stop any force deny the international standards for a human liberties. The two countries have a history of border disputes but Ethiopia has been an ally of Somalia’s president, Abdullahi Yusuf. Amnesty has asked for help from the African Union to protect all of the continents’ countries’ rights.
C) The author of this article is written by the Associated Press. The actual author is not available.
D) The author seems to have little input on his or her own feelings of the issue. He or she does not seem to support the Ethiopian killings, as would many people.
E) To gain a full perspective on the article, it would be good to hear from a member of the Ethiopian army to see if any of them, in fact were killing. They would be able to explain any reasoning or if they did loot the neighborhoods of Somalia. Did they feel that their nations troops should be in a foreign nation or is their time spent there done?
F) I think this is a terrible event that is occurring in our world. Why would an ally of a country kill their people? This whole event does not seem to make sense to me as nations are not taking responsibility either. It would help if someone did say it was happening instead of denying that it is. Hopefully, with the support of the African Union, Amnesty International will be able to solve this tragic problem.

I totally agree with Anthony about the responsibility that the government is not taking. Laws should be enforced and be made for a purpose. The country sounds like it is slowly destroying itself internally and isn't stopping. Someone needs to take charge.
