I. China to Follow Path of Peaceful Development
Xinhua, May 8, 2008
The China Daily
II. This article is about the Chinese government’s decision to develop peace. Chinese president, Hu Jintao, says China will devote itself to promoting democratization in international relations and pushing forward economic globalization toward the goal of balanced, universal benefits. He says that China will join with other nations to promote the creation of a harmonious world. China will not join in any arms race or participate in territorial expansion, says Hu.
III. A) This article relates to the theme, “State-building, expansion, and conflict,” because in the article China’s government is promoting peace with various nations.
B) China wants to create peace especially with Japan to restore their ties which were hurt during the 1930’s and 1940’s. During this time Japan set out for an imperialistic invasion of China which made both nations struggle.
C) Xinhua, the reporter, is most likely Japanese because the article takes place in Tokyo, Japan. He is an insider to this issue because the nations involved are China and Japan.
D) The reporter seems to agree with the decisions China is making and embraces the idea of peace between Japan and China.
E) I would want to hear from the other nations that China will be “joining hands” with to increase peace. It would be nice to hear whether they agree with what China is trying to do and their views on “joining hands” with China.
F) I think that China is trying to do a very good thing by making peace with its surrounding nations. Instead of fighting, people should just talk out their problems and fix them before they become worse. Everyone should increase the peace.

I agree with Alexandra. It is a very good idea for China to try and sort out their problems peacefully. There is already too much fighting in the world, and someone who wants peace is a nice change.
