II. Summary
An outbreak of the hand foot mouth disease has killed 21 children, sickened 3,000 others. This disease is highly contagious and is easily spread through children. The World Health Organization advised day-cares and schools to stay shut to prevent the spread of this illness. The illness usually leads to mouth ulcers, and blisters on the hands, feet and buttocks.

III. Reaction
This article relates to the theme interaction between humans and the environment because the disease affects human’s homeostasis and their environment as well as their family’s environment.
The hand foot mouth disease is transmitted through stool. It is able to cause paralytics disease as well as severe central nervous system disease.
The point of view is that the author most likely has a medical background.
Due to the author’s potential medical background, he is probably focused on health promotion and disease prevention.
The point of view that would be helpful would be health officials in China who may have though that they had the disease under control. It would be important to understand the methods that were in place with the onset of the outbreak.
I agree with Andrew Jacobs in that the this disease should have taken a sense of urgency in evaluated in communicability due to the severity of the symptoms and easy transmission of the disease.

This is a sad story. I feel sorry for all of these children. I agree with Alexis in that people should be taking this disease very seriously especially because it is so contagious. It is interesting that the fatalities have decreased over the recent weeks while the infections have increased. I wonder if the doctors have been getting better at treating this virus. Overall, it is very upsetting that young children are dying, and I hope they come out with a vaccine soon.

This is a horrible illness and it is sad that it is happening to children as young as under the age of two. It was smart to close down daycares and school because then the disease will spread quicker to many more children. I hope doctors will find a cure or treatments for this disease before more children die.
