Summary

A northeastern Mali army camp was attacked by Tuareg rebels. 17 rebels and 15 soldiers died during the attack. Six government soldiers and 20 rebels were wounded while this attack was going on. Both the Mali government and the rebels want to control the northern border, because of weapon and drug smuggling. The Tuareg rebels and the government had made a truce on April 3. A month later the Tuareg fighters attacked a millitary supply convoy, and broke the truce. The Tuareg rebels have always been against the Mali government since the 1960's.
