"From Bible Belt to Nobel Peace Prize"
Friday, May 23, 2008

II. Summary
This article is about these three great people: Martin Luther King Jr., Jimmy Carter and Al Gore, and what they have in common besides the Nobel Peace Prize. It is surprising that they all believe in the same religion, Baptist. Not only is their religion common but where they came from, the South. But thats not important than the religion. Al Gore got the Nobel Peace Prize by questioning about Global Warming and Green House Gases. Carter got it from promoting Human Rights and disease education. Finally, King got it from fighting for black rights and color equalities.

III. Reactions:
A) This article relates to the AP World theme "Development and Interactions of cultures" because it is talking about religion and what these important people believe in.
B) The historical background is the religion of Baptist. The belief in God, birth and resurrection.
C) The point of view is from a Korean person who is an outsider on the issue because he hasn't gotten a Nobel Peace Prize nor believes in the Baptist religion.
D) This is bias because the author is saying how being Baptist is good and maybe it does lead to the Nobel Peace Prize and what you are learning from that religion.
E) I think this is missing point of view from Carter, King and Gore. It would be helpful to hear their input about his conclusion.
F) This is a very good conclusion but just because you believe in the Baptist religion, it doesn't mean that you are going to get the Nobel Peace Prize. The beliefs are what sparks you to be a better person that can help.
