Summary:
Aden Hashi Ayro who was thought to be one of the leaders of the Al Qaeda group operating in eastern Africa, according to American and Somalia officials was killed Thursday by an American air strike. Aden Hashi Ayro was wanted for ripping up an Italian graveyard, killing a BBC journalist and planning multiple suicide attacks. Killing Aden Hashi Ayro could help lead to peace in Somalia. American military officials in Washington said that four tomahawk missiles were fired from a navy ship off the coast of Somalia; a correspondent confirmed that Ayro was dead and says that they were working on this for a long time.
Reactions:
A) This article relates to the AP World History Theme of impact of interaction among and within major societies, because America bombing and killing Aden Hashi Ayro is the result of America interacting with Somalia.
B) Aden Hashi Ayro is a high ranked member of Al Qaeda who has organized many suicide bombings in Somalia.
C) The point of view of this article is from Jeffery Gettleman an American male reporter for the New York Times.
D) Jeffery Gettleman’s opinion can be considered biased because he is from America and America were the people bombing Somalia and he may be trying to justify there actions, also he gives a lot of quotes by people who say how this was a good idea and that America did the right thing.
E) One point of view that is missing is the point of view of a citizen of Somalia, this would be important because if the citizens don’t agree with this decision they may get angry with the government.
F) I think that it was a good idea to kill Aden Hashi Ayro because he has killed many people and if they didn’t stop him he would have gone on to kill even more people.
